Welcome to Athens! When exiting Athens Airport you will find taxis waiting between Exit 2 and Exit 3 at the arrival area. You should get in the queue and when your turn comes, the policeman in charge will signal you to get into the next available taxi.
The fare from Athens airport to Athens city center is fixed:
- Day time (05:00-24:00) Athens Airport to City Center: 38 €
- Night time (24:00-05:00) Athens Airport to City Center: 54 €
The price includes totally everything. Luggage charge, tolls fee, VAT, meter start, airport charge, etc. So, you don't have to pay anything more than the above. If you do not want to wait in the queue, you can book a taxi in advance. Your driver will typically wait for you at the arrivals exit holding a board with your name. The taxi fare for transfers from Athens Airport to Athens Center and to Piraeus Port is fixed. However, the taxi driver has to start the meter in case you decide to change your destination. Bus - Metro - Train
Bus, Metro and Train are the alternative means for transfer to Athens Airport. Bus and Metro can be very convenient depending on where you want to go.
Athens Metro is available from 06:00 to 24:00 and serves a large part of Athens. Traveling from Athens Airport to Athens Center (Syntagma Square) takes about 40 minutes. The ticket costs 8 € for a solo traveler which is quite cheap given the quality and speed of travel. However, for a group of 4, a pre-booked taxi service (35 €) has almost the same cost and has zero waiting time and zero walking and searching for your hotel or other destination. Buses are available 24/7 and buses to Syntagma and Piraeus run every 15-20 minutes. Traveling from Athens Airport to Athens Center (Syntagma Square) takes about 50-60 minutes. The ticket costs 5 €. More information is available at our Airpot Bus Information Article.
